01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the scenic Oyster Point area of South San Francisco, The Anecdote SSF offers an inviting taste of American cuisine with a refined California fusion twist. This stylish restaurant effortlessly blends a coastal New England-inspired interior —think rope tapestries and cushioned whitewashed furniture— with sweeping views that create an atmospheric dining experience both inside and out.

The Anecdote's menu showcases a thoughtful lineup of breakfast and lunch classics elevated with fresh, vibrant flavors. Start your day with the Classic Lox or indulge in the buttery richness of the Rise & Shine Croissant Sandwich. For those craving something heartier, the Loaded Breakfast and Steak Breakfast Burrito deliver generous, savory satisfaction. Dynamic vegan and California-fusion offerings, like the Sunrise Quesadilla or the Buckwheat Pancakes, display mindful creativity that caters to varied palates.

Beyond breakfast, their lunch selections have garnered acclaim—from the crispy, perfectly seasoned fried chicken sandwich to boldly flavorful salmon and meat sandwiches. The Classic Cheeseburger and Albacore Tuna Melt showcase elevated twists on beloved staples, while lighter options like fresh side salads add balance. One reviewer fondly noted the fresh, crisp salad paired with a classic burger, emphasizing the care poured into every dish.

Complementing the menu is a curated beverage list that features spirit-free refreshments such as housemade raspberry lemonade and Arnold Palmer, alongside a well-chosen selection of wines and craft beers including Avissi Prosecco and Fort Point Rose Cider. While the espresso offering drew some critique for pricing, beverages overall enhance the relaxing, upscale atmosphere.

The Anecdote’s spacious layout includes ample indoor and outdoor seating, ideal for soaking in the waterfront vistas and casual yet sophisticated ambiance. Customers repeatedly praise the excellent service and the peaceful, soothing lunch experience, making it a perfect spot for both intimate meals and casual gatherings.

Do note that The Anecdote observes limited hours and closes early with weekend closures, so checking their website before visiting is advised to ensure an optimal dining experience. Despite these constraints, the quality of food, ambiance, and attentive service make The Anecdote SSF a distinctive culinary gem in South San Francisco's bustling dining scene.

We stopped on a Friday afternoon for a quick lunch which was pleasant with the food, interior Ambience and outside view The fried chicken sandwich, salmon & meat sandwich were delicious. The price they charge is totally worth the food & drinks. They have a large dining area ( inside & outside). However their open time is limited, closes early & weekend closed. Always check their website before visit

The Anecdote has a magnificently designed space and view of Oyster Point. The interior decor is reminiscent of New England rope tapestries and cushioned white-washed furniture. The dishes are above average quality California fusion cuisine, which includes the Turkey Club Sandwich, Classic Cheeseburger, Lobster & Shrimp Sandwich, Steak Tacos, Spicy Tofu Bowl, Salame Pizza, Albacore Tuna Melt, Soup of the Day (was carrot today), and salads like Quinoa Garden Bowl and Peach & Burrata Salad. When we walked in, nobody greeted us for a couple minutes, so we wandered toward some open tables before someone pointed us to a table. We chose a nicer table by the windows with a view of Oyster Point. I ordered the pizza, which was leaking oil the moment I picked it up. It had some nice tart tomato sauce, and the crust was nice and airy, but the salame overwhelmed the pizza with its saltiness. My mom ordered the Quinoa Garden Bowl with an addition of grilled salmon. The salmon had a nice crispness. The greens had a lot of long stems and not a lot of leaf. The dressing was hardly there. Unfortunately, the speaker pendants hanging from the ceiling were positioned directly above our table and they were blaring shrill highs without mids and lows. Made it difficult to have a conversation and relax with the music being so intrusive. They could have lowered the volume a good amount and still been able to provide ambience throughout the dining room. It's a nice place to stop by for a quick lunch if you're passing by South SF. Just wish the speakers were not as loud and we hadn't had to stand awkwardly at the front waiting to be seated.

Delicious new restaurant in Oyster Point. Stylish setting and tasty food. Just avoid the coffee. $10 for a double shot espresso!! That’s 3x the price of Starbucks!

We hadn’t reserved but experienced very friendly acknowledgment Food was fresh and very delicious. Service was TOP with friendly staff. Waiting time upon ordering was 15 minutes. I would have liked to experience the breakfast/brunch but was finished by 12pm. So we had beef burger with mushrooms and bacon. It was YUMMY!

Stopped by The Anecdote at Oyster Point for some drinks and bites after work—great spot! The bar has a cool vibe with awesome bay views. I had the mushroom empanadas, sliders, and a local beer—they all hit the spot. Chill atmosphere, friendly staff, and solid bar food. Definitely a gem if you’re in the area.

Excellent place, first time in SanFrancisco and the hotel we rented didn’t had a restaurant to eat breakfast and I found this place just 3 minutes away and it was great. They have breakfast and lunch, the food it’s organic and everything natural. Everything was delicious and the food it’s worth the price. The portions are big and with outstanding flavor. The waitress “Yamilette” was super nice and she gave us lots of tips from the city and recommended places to go visit.
